El-zero-zero located in Southern California's Antelope Valley, north of Los Angeles. We are seven miles north of William J. Fox Airport (WJF) and two miles west of the town of Rosamond.  [Click for Google Map Pix]

A Few Airport details:

Coordinates: The official Airport Directory coordinates are: N34° 52.25 W118° 12.55 which is not the center of the airport.
The WGS-84 coordinates of the "numbers" Runway 25 are: N34° 52.27 W118° 12.03, Runway 07 are: N34° 52.25 W118° 12.61

Runway: 07-25 is 3,600 feet by 50 feet. The winds generally favor Runway 25. Calm wind runway is Runway 25; please use it if possible for noise abatement.
WARNING: Do not mistake the Back Taxiway for the runway. It is 100 feet wide and from some angles stands out visually.

Elevation: 2,415 feet MSL.

Patterns: Airplane pattern -- south side at 800 ft AGL, Glider and ultralight pattern -- north side at 500 ft AGL; Straight-ins discouraged due to possible no-radio traffic.

Com Freqs: CTAF is 122.9, For flight following North, contact Joshua Approach on 133.65; South, Joshua on 124.55.

Lights: On from Dusk to 10 PM. After 10 PM they become PCL (Pilot Controlled Lighting) using 122.9. 5 clicks in 5 seconds turns them on, 7 clicks turns them off.

IFR Operations:  Rosamond has no IFR approach. However, Fox Field (WJF, 7 miles S.) has both VOR/GPS and ADF approaches and it would be a rare situation not to be able to reach VFR conditions on the approach, cancel and depart VFR/SVFR from Fox to Rosamond. Terrain between Fox and Rosamond is flat and essentially unobstructed.    Rosamond IFR departures can contact Joshua Approach on the ground (124.55) for clearance delivery and/or release. Normal departure would be to file "direct PMD (Palmdale VOR)...", (rest of route).  NoteDue to our proximity to a military MOA, they must issue a clearance that starts at the point you reach "their" airspace at about 4000 MSL & 3 miles south.  You can depart & climb either VFR or pilot nav 'maintaining own terrain clearance' to reach that point.  Similarly, you could file a valid IFR clearance into Rosamond but you would have to cancel during your arrival before leaving their controlled airspace.

Noise abatement: Residential skypark. Please no touch & goes from 9 PM to 8 AM (use Fox Field); run-up on pads north of runway only. Calm or negligible wind please use Rwy 25 for departures. No South turnouts prior to airport boundary!

Weight limit: 15,000 pounds max gross weight   (For larger acft, suggest Fox Field, 7 mi. S.)

FSS: Riverside Radio on 122.4

ATIS: Nearest 7mi South:  Fox Field on 126.3   (Wind speed may vary significantly from Fox reading but direction usually tracks fairly well)
Other Weather Info: "Sandburg" AWOS near Gorman on 120.625 for mountain pass condition NW & W -bound. Burbank remote ATIS 135.l20 for SF Valley conditions.

Hints From Local Pilots...Desert wind conditions can be gusty, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours in warmer months. The prevailing afternoon wind at Rosamond is commonly 15-20 kts. from 230 degrees - or about a 20 - 30 degree left crosswind on Runway 25. Be prepared for low-level turbulence from buildings along the south side of the runway, which may be partially avoided by planning touchdown about 1/3 of the way down the runway.
