Ambulance: Emergency: 911. Service is provided by
Hall Ambulance
Service from a sub-station in Rosamond.
Burn Permits: Available free at the Fire Station, phone
(661)256-2401. Notify the fire station PRIOR to burning!
Cable TV: by Time Warner Cable, from $39/month. Channel lineup
somewhat limited, and, contrary to their advertisements, they do not offer cable internet service on the Rosamond system.
Dish Network or
DirecTV
satellite services are better alternatives and provide more "cable" channels
with better quality,
all local LA stations plus CD-quality music at a cost of about $38. NOTE:
Our CC&Rs prohibit outside TV antennas (but not the small satellite dishes) and
in any case "off air" reception is poor for many LA channels.
Dig Alert: Before digging call 800 642-2444 to get an USA (Underground
Service Alert) number. Within 48 hours they will have the electric, gas, cable,
water/sewer, and telephone companies verify they have no underground cables or
pipes where you want to dig.
Dump: The
Mojave-Rosamond Sanitary Landfill is located about 3 miles
directly south of Mojave Airport. From the Golden Cantina it is a 13.5
mile drive. From Rosamond Boulevard go north on Sierra Highway. Go east across
the railroad tracks on Sopp
Road (Desert Cement Block is on the northeast corner) at which point you are 5.6 miles from the dump.
Follow the pavement as it turns north on Lone Butte Road, west on Reed
Ave, and north on United Street. Past Courtaulds Aeropace is a Disposal
Site sign. Turn right (east) to the dump entrance. Most solid waste is free to Kern Co
residents. Drain oil is accepted for recycling but batteries are not. Building
materials and tires incur an extra charge. Call 800 552-KERN option 6 for more
details.

Internet Access: Numerous ISPs offer local (toll-free) dialup numbers
for internet access. For higher speed 'always on' connections,
Antelecom
is attempting to provide a radio-based
(wireless) service within the Skypark at slightly above DSL prices (but see a
current local user review
here).
Somewhat more expensive,
Starband,
Directway
(now HughesNet),
Wild Blue and
Skycasters are examples of services that, utilizing a mini-satellite dish, can provide (semi)high-speed
service. NEW: The Skypark is at or beyond the
established distance limit for DSL
service and the local provider, AT&T/Yahoo DSL, routinely rejects requests for
service. HOWEVER, we have recently found a "live person" who can
cut through the automated rejections and order up a trial installation. At
this time (12/2007) a number of Skypark and Annex homes that had previously been rejected now have
functioning DSL service, although at least one home could not successfully be
serviced. Contact John Wilson for details.
Library: Nearest one is a short distance away, the
Wanda Kirk Library, 3611 Rosamond Blvd, 256-3236. Hours: Tue & Wed
12-8, Thu thru Sat 10-6.
Mail: The U.S. Mail to Skypark residents is delivered to locked "cluster
boxes" at east end of Taxiway B ("Back Taxiway") by an independent
contractor. Call the Rosamond Post Office at 256-2742 if you need to contact
her. East Annex mail is delivered to the security box at the east end of the
pavement on Knox. General information (zip codes, etc.) is at (800)275-8777

Blvd. This is at the southwest corner of the Kaufman & Broad
development.

Sheriff: Emergency: 911. Business calls 8 AM to 5 PM: 256-2511
Telephone (House Phone): by SBC/Pacific Bell. Area Code 661. To apply
for or change existing residential service call: 800 310-2355. Repair service:
611.
Rosamond local number prefixes are 256 & 752. From Rosamond the following
are "local calling area" prefixes: 256 423 466 718 722 726 728 729 752 802
902 940 942 943 945 946 948 949 951 952 & 974 Most major Internet
Providers offer access numbers within one of these local-call prefixes. At this
time, DSL service availability is very limited (but see
Internet Access above).
Telephone (Cell Service): Almost all cell providers seem to have
marginal coverage in the immediate Skypark neighborhood due to a hill which
blocks line-of-sight to the common cell site just north of Rosamond.
Cingular/AT&T's "GSM"
service seems best, presumably due to an alternate site location a few miles south.
Water (City): by RCSD
(Rosamond
Community Services District) at 2700 20th Street West in Rosamond. 256-3411.
Water taste is excellent (IMHO) and quality meets state standards,
for the
latest report.
Water is metered in "units" of 100 cubic feet (748 gallons). Basic water is
$10.00 per month for 3 units plus about an average $1.30 per unit for amounts
over the basic allotment, with the unit price increasing with consumption. Sewer
is $18.89 per month and there is a $1.00/month street lighting fee. All these
costs have increased markedly in the last few years and this should be taken
into account when choosing yard landscaping (if both front and back yard are
"all grass" total demand can reach 200 units per month at the height of summer
and result in a staggering water bill).
Water (Agwater): by AVEK (Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency).
Residential lots 1-9 of the Skypark and lots in the "East
Annex" have access to low-cost agwater service for lawn irrigation. A resident
from the Skypark and one from the "East Annex" handle the accounts.
The Skypark Association has no connection with the operation of this service.
