Rosamond, Zip code 93560, is an unincorporated town located in
the "High Desert" about 85 road miles north of downtown Los Angeles and 14
miles north of Lancaster. Our main north-south access is the "14
Freeway", which branches from Interstate 5 at the north end of the San
Fernando Valley. The Rosamond Skypark is located two miles west of town at
40th Street West, oriented E-W along Knox & Stetson Avenues.

Our current area population is approximately 18,000 and we are at the west (main)
gateway to the Air Force flight test center, Edwards AFB. |
 |
Originally a flag stop on the railway, Rosamond before the construction
of the 14 Freeway was a dusty cluster of buildings paralleling the old north-south
Sierra Highway at Rosamond Boulevard (PICTURES). |
 |
The past 16 years have seen extensive development in the Rosamond area,
expanding the town primarily to the west along Rosamond Boulevard. The
surge in population has brought modern shopping and significant infrastructure
improvements. |

Weather: As mentioned, we are in the "high desert", at an
elevation of 2400 feet. This means warm to hot summer days, often
reaching 100 degrees, but generally still 10 to 14 degrees below "low desert"
towns like Palm Springs. Evenings cool nicely at this altitude, and a
100 degree day will generally be followed by a night in the upper 60's.
Winter days are mild and midwinter nights typically reach freezing or below.
Wind is a factor in all deserts, and some seasons bring steady and quite brisk
breezes. Rain averages less than 7 inches per year and good flying
weather is the norm year-round. |

Would you like it here? While the demographics of Rosamond
have changed significantly with the addition of more upscale housing, Rosamond
is still a small town and retains much of the "small town" atmosphere.
Whether this is a blessing or a curse depends on your outlook. If an
evening with crystal and linen on your restaurant table followed by a concert
at the theater is your bag, ah, I would say evaluate it closely first.
On the other hand, if lack of traffic jams, knowing your neighbors by name and not being paranoid
about break-ins seems nice, then maybe you would love it. |
